Nurse Manager - 6B Medical Unit

Full Time (80 hours)

Newark, DE

ChristianaCare Hospital is looking for a Nurse Manager for the 6B Medical Unit, which is a 40-bed inpatient unit providing acute medical care around the clock.

The Nurse Manager will be responsible for 24-hour accountability and strive for excellence in both clinical and operational nursing practices, This role is essential in ensuring high-quality patient care on the 6B Medical ANCC Magnet® designated unit within Christiana Care Health Services.

Unit Information

Unit 6B is a 40-bed medical inpatient unit providing acute medical care around the clock. It is designed to accommodate patients requiring both acute and chronic medical services.

The scope of services on 6B includes a range of diagnoses and testing, such as:

- Pneumonia

- Syncope

- Diabetes management

- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

- Altered mental status

The patient population consists of adults aged 18 and older, with conditions ranging from good to fair. Patients are received, transferred, or admitted from various sources, including the emergency department, ICU, step-down units, home, and doctors' offices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assures compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Identifies priorities of leadership and management responsibilities and demonstrates the ability to delegate.
  • Enables a relationship based care approach to care delivery on assigned unit. 
  • Performs routine leader rounds on patients and caregivers on assigned unit to establish visibility, teamwork, and monitoring the level of care/practice.
  • Remains cognizant of risk management issues, and takes appropriate measures to address.
  • Supports and communicates department and unit based quality and safety initiatives.
  • Manages nursing practice and care delivery in designated unit.
  • Promotes the autonomy of the nursing staff, encouraging independent decision making and problem solving.
  • Supports and facilitates a culture of nursing professional governance on unit.
  • Formulates and effectively executes innovative leadership strategies to promote excellence.
  • Responsible for staffing and scheduling, allocating paid time off to meet staffing needs for unit census. .
  • Maintains position control in a cost-effective manner.
  • Interviews and hires potential employees, assuring the technical and professional development of staff. 
  • Coaches, disciplines and evaluates staff according to CCHS policy.
  • Maintains accurate employee files, including licensure of professional staff.
  • Plans, holds and documents monthly staff meetings, communicating all appropriate information.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of  the unit budget in collaboration with the Director/VP of Patient Care Services.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among departments to ensure effective value and quality patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates and promotes positive interpersonal communication skills all the time.
  • Maintains a cooperative and collaborative working relationship with unit based Medical Director.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices;  reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Experience & Education Requirements:

  • RN license in the state of Delaware or Compact state.

  • BSN degree required and Master's degree in healthcare or business management field.

  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty is required.

  • 5 years of appropriate clinical and leadership experience in a hospital acute care setting required.

  • BLS Certification required.

  • Experience in Telemetry is strongly preferred.

  • Nurse Executive certification preferred.

Annual Compensation Range $121,180.80 - $193,897.60

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
